I worked in UCD, DTU and DanChip (Denmark) and EirGrid
Transmission Access Planner (Electrical Engineer)
My Work: I perform technical studies of demand and generation connecting to the electricity system.
I’m an electrical engineer and I do complex mathematical modelling of the electricity system including wind turbines and gas or cola plant and how they are connected to bring power to homes and factories throughout Ireland. I specialise in Power Quality (i.e. making sure that the voltage available to consumers is sinusoidal and clean from any noise) and connecting large wind farms and data centres.
Before my current job, I used to be a lecturer at University College Dublin and delivered courses on Communication Systems (fiber optics, microwave, radio and satellite) as well as electromagnetics. I also worked in a cleanroom making Silicon chips for next generation optical devices in Denmark for a year.
My Typical Day: Sitting in an office with my best friends – my computers!
What I'd do with the money: Buy new Arduino’s to demo!
I’m forever buying new gadgets to play with (and break/fix) and it would be cool to showcase them in a workshop open to all.
