• Question: Is there a demand for your type of engineering in other countries?

      Hey Louise, yes there certainly is! I actually work with people in similar jobs on projects all over Europe. At the moment I’m working with people from Germany, Spain, France, Portugal, Finland, Serbia, Romania, UK and a few more. As energy is slightly cheaper in the USA the demand isn’t as high, but I would still be very confident of getting a job over there if I wanted to. There are loads of opportunities for engineers in Australia and New Zealand. The great thing about engineering is that you don’t need to have additional qualifications to work in any other country, like you do for some jobs e.g. Doctor, Nurse, Teacher.     That certainly answers my question, would you travel to them countries or would you communicate online etc. when working on a project?

    Well, on a daily basis I would be in contact with partners in projects from other countries by e-mail, would usually have between 1 and 3 large conference calls with them a week, and then face to face meetings which involved travel about once a month. This can be more or less depneding on what is going on , but in the last 6 months I have been to meetings in Budapest, Serbia, Finland, Italy, France, Scotland, and Belgium (several times). It also a great way to see places as usually we set a-side two days for meetings and then a half day or a Saturday to see some of the sites! 🙂
