• Question: Why was becoming an engineer important to you?

      It meant that I could do something I was interested in. If you are going to have to work at something for 40 odd years till you retire, you better make sure its (a) something you like, (b) covers the bills and (c) is something where you can move areas easily if you want other opportunities. Engineering ticked all the boxes for me.

      I decided quite young that it was something I wanted to do. It was something that interested me and I saw a big potential in it because how quickly things were changing with technology. Turns out it was the right choice…it’s unbelievable how quickly things are developing and it’s great to be a part of it.

      I always enjoyed technical subjects in school like tech drawing. I tried another course when I left school but I didnt enjoy it. I moved to engineering because I liked lego when I was young. I enjoyed building machines from scatch. I decided to give mechanical engineering a go as it seemed like it would interest me. I loved it from day one, and am very glad to be an engineer.

      Being an engineer was something that I was interested in. I didn’t do well in school but I worked really hard to get here and I totally love it. It’s a career where I know I can help make the world a better place in a small way. Also it helps that’s it’s not boring, there’s always an exciting project in the pipeline.

      Becoming an engineer was tough but totally worth it. It gave me skills and confidence. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. I love it.

      Sweeney Well.. it wasnt to start off with.. but as time went by, the more I learnt about engineering and its diversity it became more important. Still today its important for me to be the best engineer I can be and to pass on this message to my collegaues staff and very importantly… you!
