      Engineering is fun already!

Modelling stuff is fun, but building it and having something physical is something special. Often you get to do compliance testing then. This means you get to break it again to find out how it works in different conditions and that’s a lot of fun too.

I dunno.. I think its pretty good fun as is

we get to go on boats, jetskis, helicopters, planes. We get to play with really expensive toys.. (I was in charge of a $20 million plant for example)
We get to travel… I have been on every continent thanks to my career… oh and we always get to meet new and interesting people.

Engineering is a lot of fun. It’s amazing what you can do with a soldering iron, and insulation tape. I’m quite jealous of Ray, there’s no way I’d be allowed near anything expensive as I’m quite clumsy, so I have to make to with making a lot of things I need, especially when they don’t exist yet.

I also do a lot of outreach, so my lab is FULL of fun stuff like JELLY! Yes jelly (to make your own lens or waveguide), UV changing beads (they are white until you go into the sun and they change colour), UV makeup, liquid crystal sheets, polarisers (the material in your 3D glasses) to make your own art, basically all sorts of fun stuff.

It is a lot of fun – you get to see a lot of cool stuff, just a few weeks ago I was in the Lego factory in Denmark with my job! And there can be a lot of travel to different places as well.
