Talk to people, talk to everyone! The secret is knowing what the problem is and finding out who understands that area. For example I needed to write a program to allow to machines to “talk” to each other and be controlled by my PC, so I found someone who knew these machines and how to program them. This person sat down with me and explained how it worked and together we wrote the program. I learned so much.

No one is expected to know everything or to be able to solve all the problems. The key is to figure out what exactly the problem is and find someone or something (online tutorials, youtube, wikihow) to help you solve it if you can’t solve it on your own.

Persistence. If at first you don’t succeed, kick it. Then claim that’s a design step and try again. There’s no magic formula.

Information is key – find out what the problem is, what has been done before, then try, try and try again to solve it or make something new.
