• Question: How much do you get payed weekly, monthly or yearly? Do you like how much it is? Do you think it is fair for what you do in the engineering centre? What are your jobs there ?

PhD students (if they are lucky to have funding) get paid a tax free amount to cover them for 3 – 4 years of research. In UCD you get paid monthly.

I get paid monthly. Its enough to keep me happy. Obviously I’d like more, but cant complain. Engineers in general tend to do quite well but never really make the mega-bucks that some careers can command. That said, if you make something amazing, you’ll be worth more than any of those careers combined!

I get paid monthly also, and I think I get a fair amount for what I do, but I do expect to increase that amount as time goes on and I become more valuable to a company based on my experience. Just to give you an idea, I started working as engineering in 2009 as graduate and five years later I earn about double what I started on – which is pretty good considering it was during a recession! Engineer’s get higher then average wages and do quite well, but of course there are some careers where you can make more money. Unless as John said, you invent something great of course!

I get paid monthly. I feel very luck being an engineer, my best friend did a different degree to me and is not well paid.

Monthly.. and its fair.. and if its not fair then you will always have opportunity to change jobs. Now.. I am off to start a company… and right now that means I get paid nothing.. which isnt fair but since the company hasnt done anything yet it cant pay me… The prospects for improvement are good though. Now something you may not find fair but a lot of engineers experience this…. I help companies and universites etc improve their products and raise money. I have rasied millions of euros in the past but not gotten anything but satisfaction for it.
