It helps if you are good at maths and physics. It’s not essential but it really helps. I wasn’t good at either of those subjects but I was really interested and motivated. I didn’t get the points of maths grade for engineering in my Leaving Cert, so I studied science and now I’m working in engineering. I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t interested in maths, physics, solving problems and creating new things from ideas.

Also learning to become an engineer, you learn new skills like logical reasoning, communication, teamwork and looking at problems & solving them analytically. These types of skills are so valuable later on in life. These skills will allow you move into many other areas, you won’t be confined to just working in engineering.

Yeah, as Laura says, being strong at Maths and Physics helps.
Ultimately having an inquisitive mind is all you need.
If you “play” with something and break it, you should be able to put it back together with a few “minor modifications”.

Liking to try and figure things out and improve things is a great start!
