      I’d say at about 11am on the 31st January 1987 🙂
It was a wet day and I was wearing my transformers t-shirt. I’d just gotten my first computer. Who wouldn’t want to build a transformer?

When I left school I went to college in England to study agricultural science. I found the course very boring and didn’t like it. I wasn’t happy so I deferred my course for a year when I had my exams completed. This allowed me time to think and I decided that on my year out I would try an engineering course. I have always loved fixing machines on my dad’s farm so I decided to try mechanical engineering.
I loved the course in Mechanical engineering from the first day. The course has a lot of Physics, this was all new to me as I didn’t do physics for my leaving but I was very excited about this new and interesting challenge.

I think I was about 14 when I figured out what was wrong with our video player after taking it apart with a kitchen knife (not recommended!). The man in the shop had said it couldn’t be fixed first of all and we would need a new one, but I showed him what was wrong after pulling it apart and he fixed it there and then. I knew engineering was the way to go after that. (Although writing this I realise that no-one has video players any-more, but replace video with DVD and you get the idea!)

Leaving cert. I had no idea what an engineer was but the career guidance councillor suggested it and I thought why not! I didn’t really know what I wanted to do or be when I grew up. I sort of worked it out by eliminating what I didn’t like.
